"Two winners will receive a very special prize..."

Hey everyone,

It has been just about three months since the release of my first game title, "Alpha Squad". I have been writing parts of the post-mortem for the project, but I am waiting for the results of a few "events" before I complete writing it and publishing it.

The format of the article will be a bit different than most post-mortems. There is no way that I can talk about the project without mentioning the events going on outside of the production and a bit of history leading up to the game itself. It was a personal, long term task that was intertwined between the "real" 9-5 job and the social life.

After taking some time off from the game, work is going to begin on converting Alpha Squad from 3.1 code to 4.0 in order to submit for the Dream, Build, Play contest. This will also be a good opportunity to add in some of the suggestions in our forum since we were basically cut off completely from updating our title due to the Microsoft switchover to 4.0 breaking our graphics engine (among other things).

...anyway, onwards to the contest!

The Contest!

Prizes

Two winners will receive a very special prize. They will have the opportunity to send a photo of themselves or a friend and have their likeness in a custom character portrait created by Genzoman himself! These characters may be used in an upcoming game, but you will also be sent a high-resolution version for your own personal keeping.

You can see an example of past winners that were used for Alpha Squad, here.

Overview

This contest is opened to anyone who has purchased Alpha Squad with an active YouTube account and some way of recording gameplay video, either a screen capturing device or even a camera recording you and a couple of friends playing the game.

What I am looking for is gameplay footage from any level (preferably not the first stage). Your video should contain the words "Alpha Squad" in the title so that it can be found in a YouTube search. The video cannot contain footage from any other game, however you can use footage/music from other media in case you want to create something really unique.

Rules

1. You must have an active YouTube account.
2. The video must contain the words "Alpha Squad" in the title so that it can be found through a standard search on the site.
3. You can create as many videos as you want to increase your chances of winning. However you can only win one of the prizes.
4. Your video cannot contain footage from any other game, but may contain video from other media mixed with Alpha Squad if you choose.
5. The videos must be on YouTube by May 1st 2011.
6. One random winner will be selected and one entry will be selected based on quality.
7. Winners that are selected on or around May 1st will sign a form to allow us to use their likeness and some additional specifics.

That's it! If you have any questions you can contact me at dragon@dragondivide.com. Good luck!
